The Beatles: Autographs.
A full set of Beatles autographs (1965) contained in a 1960s schoolgirl's autograph book, also containing the signatures of Mal Evans (road manager) and Betty Glasow (hairdresser). Other signatures include 2 of Roger Moore, Leslie Crowther, Jess Conrad and Ann Sidney (Miss World 1964). Also included is a paperback copy of Help!, inscribed by the same owner.
Provenance:
The Beatles signatures were obtained direct from the band by the vendor's father, Lt Col Desmond Leach of the Army Air Corps. The band were filming Help! on Salisbury Plain (4-6 May 1965) and Lt Col Leach was approached by the film unit to provide a helicopter for filming which he agreed to. The Army also supplied tanks and personnel to be used in the film. At the end of the filming day, Lt Col Leach went to the set and personally obtained the signatures from the four band members and also some of the crew including Mal Evans and Betty Glasow. The autograph book has been in the ownership of his daughter ever since.
As an interesting aside, Lt Col Leach was also approached to provide a helicopter for the filming of another pop star but declined as he had never heard of her. That star was Lulu!
