A CRIMEA WAR CASUALTY PAIR TO THE 30TH FOOT.
A Crimea War Medal with Sebastopol clasp named to 3669 Sergt H. Mahaffey 30th Regt and a Sardinian type Turkish Crimea Medal named to 3669 Sergt Hughe Mahaffy 30th Regt. Hugh Mehaffey (also Maheffey, Mehaffy or Mahiffy) was born in Monaghan, following work as a shoemaker he enlisted in the Glasgow District as a Private with HM 30th regiment on 2 November 1853 with number 3669. Corporal from August 1855 and Sergeant from November 1856 he was discharged June 1865. He saw service in Ireland, the Crimea, Canada, Jersey and Gibraltar. Records suggest that he was wounded on the 8th September 1855 during the final attack on the Redan, 30th Foot Cambridgeshire Regiment had casualty figures of 43 killed and 112 wounded.
