Attributed to the Workshop of Tilman Riemenschneider (c.1460-1531) Germany, a full-length carved limewood figure of a female saint, possibly St Barbara, hollowed back, 97cm high (historic worm damage and losses). Provenance: The contents of The Birches, Kingston-upon-Thames Signs of old patches to the lower sections of the Saint's robe some historical woodworm infestation to the edges and periphery of the figure some general scattered flight holes throughout. The hand that would have held the tower/building is missing, some sins of a shim to the right hand side of the figure to stabilise the figure when removed from it original setting in an alcove. The vase has a crack at the point of a patch where it has been joined. the reverse/interior shows further historical woodworm flight holes and open larveal galleries, evidence of old scrim and glue "bandage" repairs to the lower section of the reverse interior. Signs of inevitable cracking to the end grain at the crown of the head and signs of a former hook/loop or other iron fixing from, now a hole.
