More About the Maker: The name Puiforcat is renowned in Paris and beyond. The firm was founded in 1820 by Émile Puiforcat who worked predominantly as a cutler in the Marais district of Paris. In 1857 the company’s hallmark was registered: composing of a diamond shape centred by a pocketknife flanked by the initials E and P as can be seen in this lot to the left of the handle. It was towards the late 19th century and into the 20th that the company began to move into high end silversmithing.
