An exceptionally fine mid-Victorian Irish silver Presentation Claret Jug, Dublin c. 1873, by J.S., in the form of an Armada jug, the long neck and trigger hinged lid with C scroll handle, the profusely decorated body engraved and embossed with basket and swags of flowers, scrolls etc., and with winged figures, and central lions head, also with two shield shaped panels, one with inscription, 'Presented by the Waterford Tenantry to George Mansfield, Esq. on his marriage August 1877,' the other with crest and motto 'Mors Potior Macula' - (death rather than Infamy), raised on circular spreading foot, 38cms (15") high, approx. 35 ozs.
