£5,500
A FLEMISH EBONY VENEERED TABLE CABINET late 17th century, the hinged top above a cavetto frieze and pair of doors with rippled mouldings, the interior having an applied silver putti to each door and to an arrangement of eight drawers, surrounding a central cupboard door opening to reveal a mirrored architectural niche, the top compartment lined with a mirror and flanked by conforming applied putti to the panel at either side, the well lined with blue silk, the base with a drawer, side carrying handles, 50cm wide x 28cm deep x 49cm high. See illustration
Condition: 3cm length of wavy beading missing from front top cover.
Ebony veneer splitting to all sides and lifting slightly.
It has been tidied up in the past with patches and staining.
Doors - small ares of veneer off, stained in and patched,
Drawer - bottom right corner off and stained, split beading to base is probably later.
Back boards have old worm holes and bottom right corner missing.
The silver putti conform drawer and doors and appear to be original, columns in niche have been re-gilded
Mirror in top compartment looks original. I can't see sufficiently in to the niche to make comment other than to say the reflection of a pen nib is very close, later mirror shows a gap between item and reflection.
