HARRISS SAUSAGES ADVERTISING PLATE. 17.6ins diam. Early advertising plate, maroon outer border, large brown outer letters HARRISS SAUSAGES/ ARE THE BEST. Subtle toned pictorial to centre of jockey on a pig in front of a large jubilant crowd of race goers as he wins, below - The Winner of the Pork Sausage Derby, below - WHOLESALE/ LONDON BRIDGE & MEAT MARKET, above image REGISTERED TRADE MARK. William Harris was known as - The Sausage King, died in 1912 aged 69. He built up a famed butchers business through hard work and clever advertising (see accompanying images - not included in the sale), and was one of the most famous Victorian London caterers. At one time he had 40 shops in London, Southend, Brighton & Portsmouth, plus others, but as leases expired he concentrated entirely on the wholesale sausage trade, supplying large firms & the Army & Navy. Rear (small reglued flake) Wedgewood p.m. Quite superb!
