An 1825 document registering the birth of a slave, Cape Town, 1825, as the property of ''Egbertus Bergh Esqr.''. A male infant named Fritz, born on the 11th March 1825, his mother named Selphie, Slave Registry Office, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town, signed by the Registrar, G.L. Rogers. Not a birth certificate, but the owner's registration of the child as his slave, having been born to one of his slaves. A sobering historical document.
