An early Medieval Byzantine Ecclesiastical gold red spinel and pearl bishop's ring, circa 600-800 AD, the cruciform pierced tapered conical head centrally rub-over set with round cabochon spinel surrounded by 9 wire-strung pearls (originally 12, 1 for each apostle), with similarly pierced cruciform shank terminating with sphere shoulders, setting height 14.9mm, size Q, 8.1g

Centre stone would have originally been a garnet and has been replaced with a spinel, several pearls missing and 1 is broken in half, ring itself is very clean and crisp with only light surface abrasions all over, apparently unmarked
