An original WWII Second World War Third Reich Nazi German Army M42 pattern steel Stahlhelm. Single Heer decal to one side, fitted with an eight-tongue leather liner and retaining it's original chin strap. Raw edge steel helmet. Impressed to rear rim '2038'. Retains original paintwork.
Supplied with a handwritten letter of provenance from the vendor whose Father retrieved this helmet during the war. It reads in part: 'My Father, A No.4 Commando who landed and fought on Sword Beach on 6/6/44 'D Day' found himself in a farm house in Normandy. A German soldier was dead on the kitchen table, my father took his helmet....James Roy Harding Maxwell, No.4 Commando'
