Foreign Bill: 1898 (11 Jan) complete Bill of Exchange (First) for £306/5/- bearing on reverse Ceylon 1r blue and red, tied by 'Carson & Co' oval hs and 'M & CO' stamp vendor's hs dated '11 JAN 98', taxed on arrival in London by British Foreign Bill 4s green, tied by smudged ms cancellation. Filing crease clear of adhesives and minor stain on document, still an attractive and fresh higher rate document of great rarity, with few Foreign Bill stamps from Ceylon surviving on document in any condition. [N.B. The successor of Carson & Co, remains one of the largest conglomerates in Sri Lanka, and is now known as Carson Cumberbatch PLC]
