AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD. With a 71cm straight pointed blade with flat back and shallow fuller, engraved with a crown above a fouled anchor, marked to the ricasso 'J Salter Sword Cutler 73 Strand London', and on the other side 'J. Salter Sword Cutler to R.H.R. the Duke of Sussex', With gilt knuckle bow and twin langets engraved with fouled anchors, short forward facing quillon, wire bound shagreen grip and domed pommel. With apparently original sword knot. In a gilt mounted leather scabbard, the top mount marked 'Salter sword cutler to H.R.H. the Duke of Sussex Coroner of the Adelphi 73 Strand, London, Lacking centre mount. 82.5cm overall. Salter and Co are recorded as operating between 1801-1835 *Condition: Sword knot in fragile aged state, lacking central scabbard mount and in two sections.
