A Chinese dreamstone, featuring a poem inscribed on white striated marble, “In the rain the spring trees are a multitude of people, The empty mountains look like pagoda flowers, I cannot see the number of buildings clearly, And my flat bottomed boat is a leaf floating among the verdant reeds of lake Ge” the first line from a poem by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei, signed on the reverse, probably originally mounted in a table screen, 21¼ x 14½in. (54 x 36.8cm.), glued break to top left corner.

More Information

* Condition: Top left corner is off, with some small flakes of stone missing from along the edges of the break and old glue residue along the break from an old repair. There are also two filled repairs to old chips at this same corner on the edges of the piece which is off - this is old restoration. Top right corner is slightly uneven, so may have a ground edge chip. Dirt residue along lower edge. Two small chips to reverse of stone along one edge.
