EARLY LETTER FROM A SCOTTISH SOLDIER; 19 Feb. 1798 EL (few faults; 'Cedgeree Bengall on the board the Earl Spencer') to Aberdeen rated '1/1'd and carried on the Britannia with London d.s. and double-lined framed "WAPPING" h.s. and an Edinburgh Bishop mark on front applied in transit. "....a great many French Frigates on this coast which causes our men of war to be on their guard.....our ships company is very sickly at present with the plague....the people hurts them-selves much by drinking bade water without liquor mixt in it."
