Schwerer, York a mahogany longcase clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the fourteen-inch painted break-arch dial having black Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and date dials, decorative brass hands and signed Schwerer, York, with painted scenes to the four corners and arch depicting various ruins, the mahogany case having a swan-neck pediment with fluted columns to the trunk and hood, the trunk door and panel to the base with carved decoration, all standing on bracket feet, height 232cm. The Schwerer family were known clockmakers working in York in the early-to-mid 19th century with brothers Matthew at 6 & 14 Stonegate circa 1846-1858, Peter at Petergate circa 1827-40 and Phillip at 38 Stonegate and 99 Petergate circa 1834-46.
