A MID TO LATE 17TH CENTURY LEATHER COSTREL, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1660-1680. The leather Costrel or Bottel of characteristic bulbous form, made from sections of stitched leather and formed to create a lipped spout, with fine punchwork to the body on two sides, having very good colour and surface patination, 22cm high and 20cm wide. Provenance - Original stock of Beedham Antiques at Ivy House, Baslow, Derbyshire, in 1974. Private collection of Phillip Ludlam esq, purchased 1974.
good colour, some cracking to leather.
