DAVID RUSHE V.C. INTEREST: An 1822 pattern Victorian officer's sword with plain blade double-edged towards the point, joining a brass Gothic style hilt (split) with wired leather grip, brass mounted leather scabbard a/f. A framed display of his 9th Lancers Regimental badge beside a facsimile portrait, framed and glazed. A copy of The Register of the Victoria Cross, hardcover (3). David Rushe was Troop Sergeant-Major (later Regimental Sergeant-Major) of the 9th Lancers (The Queen's Royal), gazetted 24.12.1858. Account: On 19th March 1858 at Lucknow, India, Troop Sergeant-Major Rushe displayed conspicuous bravery when, with another soldier, he attacked eight of the mutineers posted in a nullah and killed three of them.
