With copied Army list extracts, alexander Irving appointed Cornet 16/12/31, Lieut 10/3/34, Capt 4/5/43, Maj 20/6/54, Lt Col 13/12/54, Col 13/12/57, Maj Gen 6/7/67. War service extract states "Colonel Irving served the Eastern Campaign of 1854-55, including the battle of Inkermann and siege of Sebastopol; commanded the Artillery of the left attack at the bombardment in October and during the last three months of 1854 (Medal and clasps, CB and 5th Class of the Medjidie)."
