Lloyds Medal for Meritorious Service (Oval) engraved 'to E L Fitch'. 2nd Engineer Ernest Layzell Fitch of the British steamship Matoppo was awarded the medal for his extraordinary exertions on the occasion of the Matoppo losing her propeller blade at sea on 3rd Nov 1904, 600 miles off Cape Town. Lot includes original portrait photo of Fitch wearing his medal. Birth Certificate 1879 Finchley. Transcript of the events. And a New Letters Patent grated in 1949 for improvements to internal combustion engines.
