A selection of sodalite jewellery comprised of a graduated spherical bead necklace, two pendants, two bar brooches, a pair of cuff links, three rings and two pairs of drop earrings.
We are pleased to be offering this lot from the stock of family run firm Shipton and Co., who were based in Hastings White Rock area, and who were unfortunately forced to close their doors in 2014 after a section of the rock face above collapsed onto their shop, making the building unsafe. Often mistaken for it's more famous relative lapis lazuli, sodalite is named after it's high sodium content and unlike lapis lazuli can on occasions appear in a translucent form. It was only discovered in the 19th century, with Canada being one of the main sources today, and appears in a range of blues, greys, green and sometimes yellow, often with it's characteristic white calcite patches which people have compared to sea surf
