Tribal art: A rare African gunpowder container, Kuba Kingdom, Congo, 19th century. Carved in wood modelled to imitate a woven basket with two vertically aligned apertures to the container and cover. Examples similar to this were typically used for storing gunpowder whilst some smaller examples are sometimes attributed as being utilised for snuff. 11.8 cm height.
