FIRST DAY OF IMPERIAL 1d POSTAGE - MAP STAMP CORRECTLY USED ON TRANSATLANTIC COVER FROM CANADA; Rare and attractive ingoing 25 Dec. 1898 env. (flap removed; central vertical fold well clear of stamp and dates) from Toronto to London with Canada 2c Map Stamp (slight perf. stains) tied by very fine "TORONTO" Flag machine cancel and redirected in GB with London 4 Jan. backstamp plus Squared Circle on the front; shows that this was the first Transatlantic arrival of 1d-rate mail, the dream of Elihu Burritt and others!
