** NORMAN CROSS (HUNTS.) - "RIPERT" P.O.W. COVER WITH RARE M/S "Exd. Wf." CENSOR'S MARKING; Fine 18 Mar. 1812 EL from "Antoine Francois Ripert" headed "Des Prisons de Normancross" to the Mayor of North Marseille charged "12" (presumably via London and Morlaix) with tiny manuscript "Ex[amine]d W[oodruf]f" Camp Censor's mark at bottom right of reverse. Only three examples of this Norman Cross Censor's marking have been recorded (see MFPWE, p.215; see also next lot). One of only 3 recorded covers sent from the Norman Cross Camp. [See MFPWE, p.144.]Cross Reference: HUNTINGDONSHIRE, FRANCE, MILITARY - P.O.W. MAIL, MILITARY - CENSORED MAIL
