RARE DOUBLE VIA PANAMA RATE; 27 Nov. 1866 env. (rear flap refolded) 'via Panama' to London franked 2d Chalon pair (3 - few defects). The earliest example of mail via Panama recorded by us; some 2½ weeks before the route was announced in the Government Gazette. Indistinct London arrival mark on face and rear with Ship Letter Queensland and London WC cds. Carried on the Tararua to Wellington, Ralaia to Panama, Danube to St Thomas and Seine to Southampton.Important exhibition item. Ex Campbell.
