A smokebox numberplate, 90602, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 4974, in December 1943 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 77458. Loaned new to the LNER and then to the GWR in September 1944, it returned to the WD in December 1944 to be deployed in Belgium. On returning to the UK it was loaned again to the LNER in January 1947 and taken into BR stock the following year. It spent most of its BR days at March and later Doncaster and Frodingham from where it was withdrawn on 10 January 1965 and sold for scrap to Drapers at Hull. Ex loco condition. (Postage Band: D)
