Petty, William History of the Survey of Ireland, commonly called the Down Survey, Dublin, Irish Archaeological Soc., 1851, first edition, quarto. Petty’s own account of his survey of the estates of Irish landowners throughout the entire island in the mid-seventeenth century. He employed over 1000 men and this is a major source on Ireland and his work also led to the first proper atlas of Ireland.
