WW1 Memorial Plaque to Joseph Edward Ormsby, probably cleaned, good very fine with card case of issue. A unique name on CWGC, he was 6/163 Signalman RNVR and was killed on 13th May 1915 when the battleship HMS Goliath was torpedoed by the Turkish destroyer Muâvenet-i-Millîye in a daring nighttime attack on the British anchorage off Cape Helles. The Goliath capsized and sank almost immediately with the loss of 570 of her crew including Ormsby, who is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial. With copied research, he joined the Mersey Division of RNVR 28/6/12, mobilised 2/8/14 when he was posted to Goliath, from Birkenhead. (R)
