AN UNOFFICIAL BRASS TOMPION CREST FOR H.M. LIGHT CRUISER COMUS, 1914
heavily cast in brass and inscribed with name and numbered '398' to reverse --11in. (28cm.) diameter
Built by Swan Hunter, Comus was commissioned in May 1915, in February 1916 she sank the German merchant raider Greif which had disguised itself as a Norwegian neutral ship; and also fought at the Battle of Jutland providing useful intelligence about the position of the High Seas Fleet which enabled Jellicoe to make his famous call to North, possibly the most important single decision of the Great War.
