CAROLINE OF BRUNSWICK - A GEORGE III SILVER NUTMEG GRATER. in the form of a barrel, engraved around the rim of the lower body "QUEEN CAROLINE* DIED 7TH AUGT 1821" and the screw-off cover with "AGED", above a coffin and "53" below, lacking its steel rasp insert, by Samuel Meriton, London 1796; 1.5" (3.9cm) high; 0.53ozt

*Apparently engraved to commemorate the death of Queen Caroline of Brunswick (17th May 1768 - 7th August 1821), she was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Ireland and Queen of Hanover from 29th January 1820 until her death in 1821. She was the estranged wife of George IV & Princess of Wales from 1795-1820.
