A FAMILLE ROSE FLOWER-SHAPED ‘QIU CAO BEI’ POURING VESSEL, SIGNED AND DATED 1908 清光緒 1908年 粉彩 楷書款「大清光緒三十四年安徽太明湖附近秋操紀念杯」 The body formed as an opening lotus with overlapping incised petals enamelled in pink ending with a square spout, the underside with an applied lime-green stem stippled and inscribed in black ‘Daqing Guangxu san shi si nian Jiao tai hu fu jin qiu cao ji nian bei’(Cup commemorating the autumn military exercises held near Lake Taiming in Anhui during the 34th year of the Guangxu reign of the Great Qing Dynasty.) L.19.5cm ‘Qiu Cao Bei’ (Autumn Exercise Cup) is a special commemorative cup made to commemorate the autumn drill of the Qing army during the Guangxu period. During the Guangxu’s reign, several autumn military drills were held. Sometime in peony flower style, and the other in the shape of green glaze lotus leaf, both of which are stalked by the leaf stem, and the handle is hollow and communicates with the cup, which can also be called the suction cup. The reverse of the handle inscribed with the time and place of the exercise in ink.
