1964 Honda CZ100 Registration Number 437 BDN. Frame Number S0015B. Engine Number C100E 64369.
Sold with old style V5 document, original February 1964 sales receipt, an original sales leaflet, MOT certificate from 1984, details of some of the history and restoration including parts used and photographs.
The predecessor to the first publicly available Honda Monkey can be traced to a special scaled down motorcycle built for an amusement park ride at Tama Tech in Hino, Tokyo which opened in October 1961.
It featured a 4-stroke, OHV, 50cc engine that was used in the Super Cub, an all-new frame, small-diameter 5 inch tires, front and rear brakes, and a 3-speed automatic centrifugal clutch for easy gear operations, allowing children to experience the joy of riding.
The CZ100 was also used on a ride at Tama Tech, and also at Suzuka Circuit. While retaining Z100’s engine and tire size, the CZ100 featured a more rigid frame and redesigned fuel tank.
This model was soon offered for retail sale, and exported to Europe and other countries, where its compact and adorable styling gained popularity.
"BDN" was purchased new in February of 1964 from Shearsmith's in York, by a Mr Leavitt, before passing to presumably a family member, Mrs G Leavitt.
The bike was one of three purchased to be built onto the Tuby's children's roundabout ride in Doncaster Market Place, which ran for over 35 years. The frame still shows the small, neatly added fixing lugs which were added for this application. The current engine is from one of the other two bikes, which has since been scrapped.
The bike was then acquired by a Mr R Uttley of Worksop in June 1993, and from there, into the possession of the current owner. The vendor states it has been fully restored by a specialist into its current condition.
