Napoleonic War interest - a rare 1803 Pattern English Light Infantry Officers Sabre of the Grenadiers. Grip with 10 ribs, lions head pommel with small ring for lanyard. Gilt brass knuckle bow with George III cypher surmounted by a flaming grenade (for Flankers Grenadiers) crossguard with curled design supports. Curved blade 32" approx, the blade is decorated with the Stand of Arms and the makers logo "Hunter Southbridge Edinburgh" and GIII cypher. On the reverse side "Warranted" with Crown and GIII cypher. Swords of this pattern are not usually marked to the maker. The grip denotes the sword was the property of a senior officer, blade has 7 nicks to the edge. No scabbard with is very common for this style of sword. Otherwise the sword is in VGC for its age, there is no pitting to the blade, only a small chip to the grip at the base, the gilding is still present an the backstrap and guard, the blade etching is clear with no rusting. A genuine sleeper.
