(Boxing) Larry Gains Two signed photographic postcards One showing Gains in suit and hat signed 'All the Best, Larry', with the other depicting the boxer in his fighting attire, signed 'Best of Luck, Larry', Cecil Meade, Leicester, [c.1930]. Gains, a Canadian boxer who settled in the UK, never had the opportunity to compete for the world heavyweight title due to the color bar. Gains was acknowledged as the World Coloured Heavyweight Champion twice during his career and became the final holder of this title. The championship was rendered obsolete after Joe Louis won the World Heavyweight title on June 22, 1937. From the archives of the Boxing family: The Millers of Birmingham, early 20th century.
