Jonathan Swift's Chair  

An early 18th Century walnut high back Open Armchair, the square and plain velvet covered back over similarly upholstered seat, with carved "S" scroll arms on barley twist supports on front turned legs united by barley twist stretchers. (1)

* By strong family tradition at Howth Castle, reputed to be used by Jonathan Swift on his regular visits to the Castle. Identified as such and depicted in "Howth and its Owners," by Francis Elrington Ball, Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland 1917.
