Bernard Pieter Weiser (b.1822) - The Lesson, a seated bearded gentleman holding a large illustrated book, teaching two young ladies, one young lady holding a basket of fruit, signed and indistinctly dated possibly 1842, oil on panel, shaped arched top, 24.5" x 30.75"
In good original condition, there is white mould to the underside of the glass to the right hand side of the arch of the frame, further mould exists in the centre of the composition in the background and above the head of the bearded man, as well as in his brown robe below his left hand, otherwise the work is in excellent condition with good thick impasto in places and fine glazes throughout, it does have some surface dirt but this is minimal, contained within a very elaborately decorated Victorian gilt plaster and wooden frame under glass.
