£1,000
Florence Nightingale (1820-1910)- Two autograph letters dated June 25th 1871 & July 1st 1871. Both written to the Architectural firm Pennington & Brigden of Manchester by Nightingale to request further information regarding their design for Pendlebury Children's Hospital. Nightingale wrote to the Secretary of the Hospital in May 1871 requesting the architect's details, and these letters look to be her correspondence with them. Her first letter requests plans of the Hospital so that she can pass them on to the Grand Duchess of Baden who was looking to build a new Children's hospital in Baden. The second letter thanks the architects for the plans and requests more information about the 'very radical and important improvements in the Wards and their adjuncts' which they had suggested to her. Each folded sheet 12.5cm x 20.5cm.
