Of Tasmanian interest; Taxidermy: A Late Victorian cased Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula), a full mount adult with three hummingbirds and three unidentified birds, amidst a sparse natural setting of dry grasses, set against a wash painted interior, enclosed within a period ebonised single-glass table display case, 92 x 46 x 20cm.
Provenance; Henry Rockliff (1815 Kirk Smeaton, South Yorkshire - 1889 Sassafors, Tasmania), emigrated in 1840 as a free settler, married Hannah Spurr in 1842, had 11 children, returned to Kirk Smeaton in 1856 with this taxidermy, returning to Tasmania in 1857. Then by descent.
