Medieval altar cross mount depicting the eagle of St John. A very fine gilt-bronze mount from an altar cross or reliquary casket. It would have been one of a set of representing the four evangelists, Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. On the reverse is an integral stud for attachment. 14th - 15th century. 39mm, 14.8g.
