A Chinese bronze censer, late Ming Dynasty. The later wooden cover surmounted by a pale jade finial, the body decorated with stylised vine like dragons in relief, height of bronze censer 16.5cm, width 19cm West Cornwall private seller, by family descent. The censer was bought in Shanghai in 1935 by the vendors uncle, who along with his brother (the vendors father) were working as Senior Constructors to the Admiralty for the design and construction of gunboats which included those used for the patrol of the Yangtze River. Weight of censer 1260 grams. Weight of cover 268 grams. There has been old repairs to the top rim. Two old repairs on the base and a tiny hole in one of the feet.
