A stunning antique original watercolour on paper painting titled "Boat on a lake" showing an ephemeral landscape with fantastical mountains in the distance, by the acclaimed Irish artist Andrew Nicoll (1804-1886). Signed and dated bottom left, 1837. There is some condition issues on the frame and cracking to the board.
Nicoll was born in Belfast and exhibited regularly at the RHA. He would become known as the most pronounced and prolific Irish artist of the nineteenth century. Nicoll had a particular interest in topographical art, this work being an example of such. He has an incredible sales history, selling in the thousands. Some losses, but the work is still a wonderful example.
