An 18th century bone fan, the upper guards painted in chinoiserie fashion, the sticks carved as to be decorative when seen from the side, the double paper leaf engraved and hand-coloured with a lady to the left pointing to the clouds, whence the god Helios is approaching on his horse-drawn chariot, whilst receiving a basket of flowers from a young winged cherub in human clothes, Cupid mid-leaf, polishing his bow, and a further suitor arriving by water, being rowed in a small boat by a winged cherub, guard approx. 27.5cm; together with another bone fan of a similar period, the monture shaped but relatively plain, the leaf with a central cartouche showing the goddess Hera with her very decorative chariot drawn by a pair of peacocks, driven by a winged figure in draped robes, taunting Cupid by holding his bow and arrow just out of reach, the cartouche, the reserves embellished with tiny silver sequins and paillettes and the addition of two bands of cream ribbon, guard approx. 25cm (2)
