Star Lot: A fabulous original oil on cotton canvas painting by the Irish artist Desmond Turner. Features a sweeping landscape scene of an insular bay with tall mountains in the distance as two figures stroll the sandy shore. Reminiscent of Achill with its wide strands and mountainous topography. Rendered in sweeping brushstrokes of ochre and blue greys. Signed bottom right and housed in a contemporary gilt frame. Turner (1923-20110 was born in Co. Down. He taught art and music at Boys’ Model School, Belfast, 1947–50, then art from 1950–82 at Stranillis College, from 1966 also giving lessons at a school he founded on Achill Island, where he painted in the summer.
