1916 Rising pair to Volunteer Francis O'Flanagan, Four Courts garrison. A 1916 Rising Service Medal privately engraved 'Francis O'Flanagan - C Coy 1st B. D.B. - Four Courts' and a 1917-21 War of Independence Medal, with Comhrach bar privately engraved 'Francis O'Flanagan - C Coy & H Coy 1st Battn. - D.B. - Four Courts'. Francis O'Flanagan fought at Church Street Bridge and the Four Courts and was interned until August 1916. During the War of Independence he served with the IRA as a Company Sergeant and took part in the attack on British forces at Monk's Bakery in Dublin in September 1920 and mobilised for aborted attempt to rescue Kevin Barry on the 31st of October 1920. Arrested in November 1920 he was interned until December 1921. He took the Anti-Treaty side in the Civil War and at the outbreak of the Civil War in June 1922 he took part in fighting against National Army forces in Dublin. Arrested in August 1922 he was interned until June 1923.
