AN ANTIQUE HERIZ RUG REPUTEDLY FROM THE RESIDENCE OF BENITO MUSSOLINI (1883-1945), POSSIBLY VILLA FELTRINELLI ON LAKE GARDA,

By repute, the vendors father, a British soldier in the Armoured Engineer Assault Regiment had occupied the villa for a while during their advance north through Italy. All the items of furniture in it (at least that part being used as a temporary officers' mess) had been meticulously inventoried in typical British Army fashion. When the time came to move on the Mess Sergeant carefully checked everything off against the inventory but found that the Heriz carpet was not on the list. To help balance his books, the vendors father said he would take it with him, and told him to roll it up and put it on the back of his jeep. The vendors father never said where the villa was but brief online research suggests it could have been Villa Feltrinelli on Lake Garda.
