A LATE 18TH CENTURY FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL BY ELLSTON OF DONCASTER. A fine quality holster pistol with a 23 cm tapering steel barrel marked 'Doncaster' and with proof marks, ramrod beneath the barrel. The unbridled flint lock action engraved 'Ellston'. With brass side plate, trigger guard, butt plate and sconce numbered '3'. 36 cm overall. Abraham Ellston (sometimes Elston) worked between 1783-1793 as a provincial maker producing fine quality weapons for the wealthier gentry in South Yorkshire and those travelling along the Great North Road.

A nice example with good colour, some slight splitting to wood work and light marking, action holds on half cock and is a bit stiff on full cock.
