A late 18c eight day longcase clock, the 30cm sq. brass dial signed C. Edward Gillett Manchester (Charles Edward Gillett, Market Lane, Manchester 1772-1800). The chapter ring and the dial centre are silvered, and the latter has seconds and date dials and is engraved with birds and foliage. The corners have scroll spandrels and the hands are of unmatched pattern steel. The movement has internal countwheel striking utilising pins on the great wheel as the countwheel. The movement is contained in an oak case with mahogany crossbanding and details. The hood has swan neck pediments with carved wooden paterae and a carved wood central finial and the columns flanking the dial have spiral turning to their centre section. Above the dial is a band of 'faux verre églomisé' decoration. The trunk has plain quarter columns and the trunk door has a wavy top. The base has canted corners and a cut out plinth door. The clock stands 226cm tall overall.
