SPAIN - ARMY OF CATALONIA - PAIR OF RARE ARMEE MARK COVERS - ONE EX ARMY IN RETREAT; Sept. [1812] E charged "11" (dec.) to Gouy (N. France) with fine rare red "ARM. DE CATALOGNE" on the front; plus 28 Mar. 1814 EL (to the soldier's parents) from "Liera" (?Llers, near Figuera, NW Spain, near the French border) charged "4" (dec.) to "Montreal" (de Laude; near Carcassonne) with a very fine rare red "ARM. DE CATALOGNE/PLACE DE FIGUERES" (latest known date?) on the front. The latter was sent as the Anglo-Spanish forces were chasing the retreating French troops over the Pyrenees back into France; the Peninsular War ended less than a month later.
