An unusual late 18th century brass barrelled percussion mortar or pyrotechnic pistol, converted from flintlock with breech drum, 12½” overall, barrel 6¾” with bore diameter at muzzle of 1-1/8”, with muzzle ring and step down to the breech, which has traces of engraving; later style flat stepped lock with simple scroll engraving and traces of name (R.A. Shaw?); fullstocked with brass mounts including grotesque mask butt cap and simply engraved trigger guard; with replacement brass tipped ramrod. GWO & generally GC (lock lightly pitted and worn, entire fore end and sideplate replaced).
