WW1 1/4th Kings Own North Staffordshire Regiment Casualty Military Medal Pair. Awarded to Private Albert Victor Taylor MM who was awarded the MM for gallantry on the 23rd Decemeber 1916 and was later Killed whilst attached to the 5th Bn North Staffordshire Regiment. Comprising: Military Medal, 3488 PTE A V TAYLOR 1/4 R LANC R-TF, 1914/15 Star, PTE R.LANC R, British War Medal, Victory Medal (BOTH MEDALS ERASED EXAMPLES). Accompanied by Memorial scroll PTE ALBERT VICTOR TAYLOR MM N. STAFFORDSHIRE REGT. VIII Corps certificate for the MM giving details. .... His last letter home to his sweetheart dated 11th April 1918 this being a roundabout proposal to his sweetheart. Some quantity of research. The VIII Corps citation for the Military Medal Gallant conduct On the morning of December 23rd 1916, when you returned under fire to rescue your superior Officer, who was lying wounded in the German wire. Dated 31st December 1916. Private Albert Victor Taylor MM was living in Preston, he enlisted on the 27th May 1915 and landed in France on the 24th December 1915. He returned to the UK in May 1917 and attended the 36th Bombing course West Lancs Brigade in September 1917. On the 26th March 1918 he returned to France and on the 11th April sent his last letter home to his sweetheart, five days later he was reported died of wounds on the 16th April 1918.
