who was sadly killed in action on the first day of the Somme, to include a 1914/15 Star, correctly impressed 17223 L.Cpl J. Wood. L'Pool R; a British War Medal, correctly impressed 17223 Pte. J. Wood. L'Pool R; a Victory Medal, correctly impressed 17223 Pte. J. Wood. L'Pool R.; and a memorial plaque to James Wood, condition GEF in boxes of issues with transmittal slips

Sold with the following items: A Princess Mary tin; memorial scroll in tube of issue, addressed to his mother in Princess Park, Liverpool; a scroll to his mother from the Liverpool District Mission Society in remembrance of James; an original probate document for James dated 17th Oct 1916; an original photograph of the memorial raised on the Somme for the 18t Bn.; an original programme from the unveiling of the Liverpool War Memorial in 1922 x2; a death certificate for James; 3 original Liverpool Pals Badges; a wooden whistle; a damaged leather wallet with family photographs, which was returned to his mother after he was killed (a lot)James Wood was born in Liverpool in 1893, the son of Robert and Mary Jane Wood.Woods was a member of the 18th Bn Liverpool Regiment, the 2nd Pals. He landed in France on the 7th of November 1915, with the rank of L/Cpl. He was later reduced in rank to Pte. On the 1st of July 1916, the Bn attacked at Montauban and captured a whole system of German trenches, including the Glatz Redoubt. James was sadly one of the 500 casualties, being killed in action.He is buried in Dantzig Alley British Cemetery.
